Education Seminar of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) invited Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta to its International Academy for Leadership here in the Philippines, the foundation’s first replication seminar of its liberal educational reform workshops from Germany. The seminar, entitled “Education in the Philippines: Liberal Perspectives,” aims to discuss the present educational situation of the country, what it should be and what the liberal solutions are. To be more specific, the seminar has the following objectives, to wit:

1. Participants must know the basic issues and problems of Philippine education;

2. Participants must be able to appreciate these problems and propose goals to be achieved by both the government and private sectors;

3. Participants must be able to understand the fundamentals of liberal education and their application to the Philippine setting;

4. Participants must be able to advocate for excellence in education and its role in the societal transformation; and

5. Participants must be able to relate education to the demands of a changing, globalized and competitive world.

The seminar is from September 26 to 29, 2007, in the “University Town of the South,” Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
