Lyceum is in Davao!

Davao City is welcoming the newest school in town!

The Lyceum of the Philippines University will be putting up their first ever university outside Luzon and the first in Mindanao. The soon to rise Lyceum of the Philippines Davao campus will be catering university levels students however the management is thinking about offering Grades 11-12 (Senior High school).

Mr. Laurel, the representative of Lyceum, who shared to the City Council, said that 8 hectares of land area are intended to buildings and facilities that will offer various courses. He also added that Lyceum is known for quality education in the fields of HRM and Hospitality, Business, IT, Medical, Maritime and Engineering.

According to Mr. Laurel, they chose Davao City due to the peace and order of the City, the growing interest of the people in Davao and of course of our President Duterte who came from Davao City as well as the overall potential of Mindanao as the newest educational hub of the country.

Brigada Eskwela is here once again! 

Another school year is about to begin and students, teachers as well as parents are gearing up for another year of learning experience.

As part of the back to school routine, schools are now conducting the annual "Brigada Eskwela". This year, the theme is "Tayo Para sa Paaralang Ligtas, Maayos at Handa- Mula Kindergarten Hanggang Senior High School".

Every year, it has been a commitment of Team Acosta to take part of the Brigada Eskwela. The team jumped off at J.P Laurel Elementary School painting walls, cleaning the surroundings and feeding Moringa Tuna Lugaw. Team Acosta with school principal Leoncio Fernandez and teachers hand in hand prepared the school facilities for the incoming students.

Brigada Eskwela 2016 will run from May 30-June 4, 2016. And Team Acosta greatly welcomes donations and man power from everyone who wants to make a difference for the education of our young ones.

Mintal Elem. School Perimeter Fence Turnover

Recently, we have seen enormous developments and upgrades of Mintal Elementary School's facilities. Within just a year, the school was granted and established new school buildings and classrooms that the students utilize for academic and extra curricular activities.

Now, Mintal Elementary School is again blessed with a School Concrete Perimeter Fence from Aboitiz Power through Headcor Inc. The turn-over ceremony was held last October 21, 2015 at the school premises of Mintal Elementary School, Tugbok District, Davao City. The turnover ceremony was attended by School Principal of Mintal Elementary School, Estrella Villanueva, Vp for Aboitiz Power Rolando G. Pacquiao, 3rd District Councilor Myrna Dalodo Ortiz, Mintal PB Ramon Bargamento II with his barangay councils and Ms. Aileen Mabanding, Admin Manager of Aboitiz Power.

The signing of the Deed of Donation then followed after the short program. It was witnessed by Ms. Diddy Dalodo-Ortiz, Mr. Emmanuel Medel, Geid Manager, Atty. Jonas Piore, Education Program Specialist and representative of Dr. Paguican and lastly, Ms. Adeline Go, supervisor of Tugbok District

The concrete fence project that stretches 420 meters amounts to more than Php 2,100,000. This ensures the security and safety of the students and everyone within the area of the school.

Wanted: Earth-fill Donations for Public School

Josefa Llanes Escoda Elementary School (JLEES) located in Maa, Davao City is in dire need of earthfill to elevate their school ground which has been suffering from constant flooding. In response to the problem, Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta, as the Chairperson of the Committee on Education of the City Council, and JLEES principal Ms. Cecilia Cardoza introduced the ground elevation joint community project at the Club 888 media forum at Marco Polo Hotel on November 27, 2013, appealing for public support and assistance from both government and private sectors.

Shari Faye Paleracio of Davao City National High School is this year's Mabel Sunga Acosta Campus Journalist of the Year Awardee.

Ms. Paleracio, a third year student under the Special Program of the Arts section, is also the Editor in Chief of Davao Wave, DCNHS official publication, under the supervision of Ms. Nelly Tirol.

Other winners of the competition are: Frederick Omalza of the Sta Ana National High School, 1^st runner-up; Jeffrey Josol of Talomo National High School, 2^nd Runner-up; and Lanie Daluz of Sta Ana National High School, 3rd Runner-up.

The Judges of the Mabel Sunga Acosta's Search for Campus Journalist of the Year 2008 who was tasked to oversee the competition were (from R to L): Mr. Robert Torres of the City Information Office, Mr. Andy Rara of ABS-CBN- DXAB, Mrs. Binelda J. DAVAO CITY LIBRARY VENUE FOR THE 2008 CJTY

Contestants of this year’s Campus Journalist of the Year competition will be utilizing the Davao City Library computer facilities for the “on the spot news writing” part of the contest. The contestants need not put pen to paper but instead type a short article on a certain topic given by the judges and email their work to an email address for the judge’s review. Through this process, the judges will have an easy and efficient way of assessing the written article made by each contestant.

The best written article will be featured in the City Library a week after the competition.

Our Davao City Library was considered as one of the outstanding libraries during the centenary of Philippine Public Libraries. Through the leadership of City Librarian Ms. Nora Fe Alajar, the Davao City Library is one of the few public libraries nationwide that is linked to the Philippine Electronic Library (E-Lib). The E-Lib, a database of over 70,000 titles of dissertations, is a project of the Philippine National Library to provide easy access to Filipiniana materials that can otherwise be found only in National Library or known institutions in the General Manila Area.

TAMBOBONG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VISITATION

After visiting Kidali Primary School in Sitio Kidali, Brgy. Tambobong, Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta, the rest of team Mabel and DepEd personnel proceeded to the more populated Tambobong Elementary School located in the center of the said barangay, to hand over as well some educational materials, medicines and sport equipments for the school.

Established in the 1950’s, the school has a population of around 800 students from Grade 1 to Grade 6, and is composed of 20 teachers, 17 of whom are national paid, while 3 are Local School Board (LSB) paid. It is headed by its School-In-Charge Mrs. Alma Tac-on, who has been engaged in the teaching profession for more than 20 years.

Upon arriving at the said school, Councilor Acosta and her team, were greeted by Mrs. Alma Tac-on, SIC, and Mr. Rodelio Felipe, Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) President. The said school officials further extended their hospitality by preparing a delicious lunch for the Councilor and her companions. After having lunch, Councilor Acosta and the school teachers gladly posed for some photo ops.
