School supplies for Leon Garcia High school students fire victim

Last October 14, 2008, Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta took a time out from the Regular Session to check and see for herself the damage caused by the fire that swept through Gotamco bayside area that affected approximately 1500 individuals, which included students, and razed 5 classrooms of Leon Garcia National High School (Formerly San Juan National High School).

After seeing the fire’s devastation, Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta donated school supplies, composed of notebooks, ballpens, erasers, pencils, folders, envelopes, crayons and rulers to affected students and requested the help of the City Engineer's Office through City Engr. Jose Gestuveo to assess the condition of the classrooms of the said high school to ensure the safety of its students.

The Gotamco fire was a wind-driven fire that lasted for at least 5 hours . The devastating fire destroyed more than 500 homes, displaced 1,500 residents and caused more than 100 million pesos in damages.

Gotamco fire victims still need our assistance. For your inquiries and assistance, please contact the City Social Services and Development Office at 082-2271617.
