
Barack Obama, 47, took the oath of office at the US Capitol to become the first black president in US history Wednesday (January 21, 2009 1:00 am Philippines Time. He proclaimed that America had chosen "hope over fear" and must unite in a "new era of responsibility" to triumph over its multiple crises. He also pledges new start with muslims.
