In an interview over “Mabel at your Service” public affairs program last Sunday, September 13, 2009, anchored by Davao City Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta, Senator Pangilinan lamented that the country is way left behind in economic stability. He expressed disappointment of the fact that the Philippines have not increased its per capita income for the last 30 years. China has registered a 400 percent increase; Malaysia, 150 percent; and Thailand 100 percent during the same period. “What we’re earning 30 years ago, we’re earning today. In other words, we’re running-in-place,” he said.
He blamed the “public sector leadership” for “the mess we’re in” however, without specifying any president or past leaders and offered new public sector leaders as the optimal solution.
He said that it is encouraging that there are efforts to get people to register and encouraged the people, especially the youth of Davao City to be more vigilant in exercising and protecting their votes.
In Davao city alone there is approximately over one million registered first time voters because of the rejuvenated interest in the upcoming the electoral process.
Mabel Sunga Acosta is a City Councilor of the First District of Davao City from 2001-2010 and 2013-present, and a Career Executive Service Eligible. She heads the City Council’s Committees on Peace & Public Safety and Publication. She empowers the youth, women, environmental advocates, peace and security forces, and the community through effective legislation and community services.

I really think DAVAO city should
have a STRONG and GENUINE laws
that would surely benefit it's
workforce. Specially for those
workers who's into ICT and BPO
industry. Genuine HEALTH CARE
and medical attention should be
lifted up for those workers.
I've been working in a call
center here in davao for over 2
years now...on the 2 companies
that i have worked with, I never
had any medical or health care
benefits attained. Yes,
Philhealth is there, but I don't
think an insurance is necessary
when you're not confined in a
hospital or something that
requires the use of that
insurance. What I want, I mean,
WE want is a CONSISTENT
QUARTERLY medical check-ups,
either dental, optical,
everything!!!! All should be
provided to us, and given for
FREE.
I hope you guys on the
government side would give
enough attention in to this
matter. And hopefully, we could
see your effort and necessary
action sooner. Remember, DAVAO
is cited as the next BPO capital
of the country because of the
quality of its workforce.
I think having this kind of
policy or law is just like
"paying back the workers" of
what they have contributed to
the city's economy. Since, We,
the workers, are one of the
city's precious investment.
right?
Oh, please focus on small ICT
and BPO companies...please! oh,
salaries, incentives, benefits
of the workers should be
monitored as well. PLEASE!!!
