Off we go! Coastal Clean-up

"Save Mother Earth", "Let's be Clean and Green", "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" all these seem cliché for us after all the efforts and projects to help Mother Earth. But for a world that has depleting resources and consuming too much more than what is produced, we definitely have to live up to these words. The earth is very rich with different kinds of resources but these are being disturbed by various reasons most especially by human activities.

Salt water is the home of millions of species that make up the balance of our ecosystem and supplies for the basic needs of human beings- Food. But today, this very gift is threatened by so many harmful wastes caused by human negligence. One of the greatest contributors of coastal pollution is trash. According to Water Encyclopedia, these are items that are brought to the beach and left there by beachgoers; garbage deliberately or accidentally discarded by ships at sea or from offshore oil platforms; and material carried to sea by rivers and estuaries, especially from large coastal cities. Thus, knowing this reality, it is a challenge for us to act upon this wronged situation of our environment.

Last April 12, 2015, approximately 40 Law Students from the Ateneo de Davao University Law School, Dumalas 2 Women Association and the Office of Councilor Acosta joined together for a coastal clean-up. Driven by the passion to help mother nature from the negative effects of pollution, these volunteers gathered at Dumalas 2, Matina Aplaya, Davao City around 8am to pick up trashes and clean the coast.

After the coastal clean-up, the office of Councilor Acosta also spearheaded feeding program at the said barangay.
