AN ORDER CREATING VARIOUS COMMITTEES FOR THE HOSTING OF THE 2018 DAVAO REGIONAL ATHLETICS ASSOCIATION (DAVRAA) MEET IN DAVAO CITY, ITS COMPOSITION AND FUNCTIONS

   Republic Act No. 10588, "Palarong Pambansa Act of 2013", enunciated the policy of the state to promote physical education, encourage regular sports programs, support the local meets and the Palarong Pambansa. In response to the national policy, Davao City through the Davao City Executive Order No. 31 creates the committees for the hosting of the 2018 Davao Regional Athletics Association (DAVRAA). As the next Host-City of the 2018 DAVRAA Meet, it is necessary to create the committees to ensure the success of the said event.

The delegation of Davao City for the Davao Region Athletic Association (DAVRAA) is currently in the battlefield as they fight for the winning spot in the field of sports. Young athletes in various sports have been preparing for this big clash as they try to get a spot for the Palarong Pambansa. DAVRAA is scheduled on February 14-19, 2016 at the Sports and Tourism Complex of Tagum City. 

To give the athletes and their team the support they need, the Schools Division of the City held a Send Off MAss and Program last February 11, 2016. This was attended by more or less 650 delegation officials, coaches, chaperons, parents and athletes at the Davao City National High School.

As the Chairperson of the Committee on Sports, Coun. Mabel Sunga Acosta was represented by Ms. Luna Acosta, her daughter to share and inspire the athletes to excel more in their chosen field of specialization in DAVRAA.

Ms. Luna stressing the very essence of the Meet said that it is not merely the opportunities of the athletes to showcase their abilities nor simply a venue for sports development among participating athletes but more into the renewal and strengthening of close ties among the Davaoeños in the region. Overall, this breeds peace, friendship and unity through sports which also brings pride and honor to represent our beloved City. Ms. Luna assured the athletes and the whole sports community that the support of the local government will always be available for them.

The early Olympic Games were celebrated as a religious festival from 776 B.C. until 393 A.D., when the games were banned for being a pagan festival (the Olympics celebrated the Greek god Zeus). In 1894, a French educator Baron Pierre de Coubertin, proposed a revival of the ancient tradition, and thus the modern-day Olympic Summer Games were born.
