Last Thursday, November 22, 2007, Fmr. Sen. Pres. Franklin Drilon, Liberal Party President, and Rep. Lorenzo Tañada III, 4th Dist. of Quezon, graced the halls of the University of Mindanao, as resource speakers in a forum on the National Political Situation. Also present were Atty. Antonio Arellano, DOJ Regional State Prosecutor, Ms. Amy Cabusao, Mindanao Times Editor, and Mr. Randy Ponteras, Chair, Freedom from Debt Coalition-Davao, who composed the panel of reactors.
The said forum entitled “Peace, Human Rights & Democracy in Nation in Transition,” was jointly sponsored by the National Institute for Policy Studies (NIPS), Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), Samahang Mag-aaral ng Pulitika (SMP-UM), Mindanao Times, and Coun. Peter Lavina, in celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace and Human Rights Week.
The AVR of the University where the forum was held, was filled with participants which include, students, farmers, reporters, local officials and members of NGOs, who are all enthusiastic to see the Fmr. Sen. Drilon and Rep. Tañada III, and hurl questions to them on issues affecting the nation’s political and economic situation.
Among the issues discussed in the forum were the dismissed impeachment complaint against PGMA, the unsolved political killings and disappearances, the future of Philippine politics, the problems of graft and corruption and the plight of poverty of the majority of our Filipino brothers and sisters.
