The City Council of Davao City has warmly welcomed into its august hall two new members – Councilors Paolo Duterte, President of the Association of Barangay Captains, and Halila Sudagar, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President.
Both won in the barangay and SK elections held last October 29, 2007.
Councilor Halila Sudagar is a 15-year-old 3rd year high school student of Fatima de Davao School. She is a member of the Kalagan Tribe. In the recent SK elections, she was elected as the SK Chairman of Barangay Wa-an. She was officially inducted in the City Council as the representative of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation-Davao City Chapter last December 6. She and the other SK officers were sworn in by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte four days later. Councilor Sudagar is currently the chairperson of the Committee on Youth and Sports.
Councilor Paolo Duterte, coming from a family of politicians, is the 32-year-old eldest child of incumbent Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte. He obtained a landslide victory as Barangay Captain of Catalunan Grande in the latest barangay election and was thereafter voted as President of the Liga ng mga Barangay, paving way for his having a seat in the City Council. He has been appointed as the newest Chairman of the Committee on Barangay Affairs.
With its additional members who vowed to serve the public with utmost sincerity, the 15th City Council is heading for a more productive path in the Year of the Earth Rat.
