Last March 11, 2009, the Investment Relations Office (IRO) of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas held its annual Philippine Economic Briefing, which was entitled “Challenges and Opportunities in a Global Crisis”, at the Grand Ballroom of the Marco Polo Hotel in Davao City which was attended by the members of the business sector, media and the local and national government officials.
The IRO was established in July 2001 to strengthen the country’s relations with invesftors and other stakeholders by promoting active channels of information flow and dialogue between economic policy and investors. It regularly conducts economic briefings around the country to update the business community, media and industry organizations on the country’s economic performance.
In last Wednesday’s economic briefing the Philippine's economic performance in 2008 and the Government plans and programs to mitigate the impact of the global economic slowdown were presented to the members business community, media and industry organizations as well as government officials of Region XI. The briefing also featured a report on the economic performance and outlook of the Region XI (Southern Mindanao Region).
The presentations were made by the Government’s Economic Management Team which is composed of the Cabinet Secretaries of the Government.
