Mabel Sunga Acosta is a City Councilor of the First District of Davao City from 2001-2010 and 2013-present, and a Career Executive Service Eligible. She heads the City Council’s Committees on Peace & Public Safety and Publication. She empowers the youth, women, environmental advocates, peace and security forces, and the community through effective legislation and community services.

Youth Empowerment Training: Making Choices, Building Voices
On January 22, 2015 the office of Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta hosted their first leadership workshop entitled, "Youth Empowerment Training: Making Choices, Building Voices" The workshop was held at the Green Conference Room, 3rd floor of the Sangguniang Panlungsod building from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.
The workshop was attended by over 30 youth leaders ages 16 above from 27 different barangays.
Among those who presented and spoke about leadership were Ms. Lou Jane M. Bulaclac the chief of staff of Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta, Ms. Lady Mae Pia and with Ms. Cherilyn M. Dela Rama as the master of ceremonies.
Brgy. Councilor Mayjee A. Dela Cruz gave a talk on "Engaging Public Service and Volunteerism".
Mr. Neil M. Lastimosa spoke about the problems the Filipino youth are experiencing and everyday good deeds that will help the community. Part of the workshop was actively inviting the participants, most of whom were in high school to share what they saw in their own barangays that needed improvement, writing them down and sharing these ideas with their peers.
