23rd So Kim Cheng Foundation Sports Awarding Night

Grand Regal Hotel Hosting the SKC Sports Awards

The Annual So Kim Cheng Sports Awards is on its 23rd year, on July 22, 2017 at Grand Regal Hotel, following the legacy of the late So Kim Cheng. So Kim Cheng Foundation is the sole and the longest award giving body in the city, in cooperation with the Davao City Sports Council, Inc.
The So Kim Cheng Legacy is passed on the care of the So Peng Ki ( celebrating his 89th birthday), Dominic Dexter So, Jr, and the rest of the So family.  Indeed, Davao City is grateful to the works of the foundation for its continual support and persistent motivation to the Dabawenyo Athletes.
During the event several awards were given to leaders and also to athletes. In behalf of the Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William "Buch" Ramirez, Senior Executive Assistant Ronel Abrenica received the Lifetime Leadership Award for his exemplary support to the Philippine Sports Athlete. The Lifetime Achievement Award was also given to former Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Leon Gonzalo " Pingoy" Montemayor.
The very cute and adorable 7-year old Karatedo Athlete, Atsuko Kaiyel Tan, received the SKC Female Athlete of the Year 2017 Award. Being the youngest among the awardees, Kaiyel simply charms everybody around her. Furthermore, the Karatedo Athlete Julian Ambrose Ramirez received the SKC Male Athlete of the Year 2017 Award. Yet, behind these two athletes success is the courageous and the ever supportive coach, Rommel Tan, who received the Coach of the Year Award and also a Hall of Fame Awardee. Being one of the pillars of the Association for the Advancement of Karate (AAK) Davao, his undying efforts in his humble beginnings yielded genuine successful fruits.    Furthermore, several Dabawenyo Athletes received their fruits of their labor and courage. Indeed, they bring honor to our beloved city and we will always be proud that we are part of this endeavor.
