Basic Parliamentary Rules and Procedures Training


Davao Young Leaders Congress 2017: Seminar - Workshop

     This coming August 26, 2017, Saturday, will mark the start of the series of Basic Parliamentary Rules and Procedures Training for our High School Student Leaders. High School Students from the 1st District Schools of Davao City will have the training on August 26, 2017 at Sta. Ana National High School, and for the students from 2nd and 3rd District will have the training on September 9, 2017 at Bernardo Carpio National High School, and September 16, 2017 at Crossing Bayabas National High School, respectively. 

    This 1-day training will cover the concept of rules governing an organization, purposes and principles of the parliamentary procedure, general rules for debate, and voting procedures. Truly, this training will train student leaders in formalizing regular sessions being made especially in the legislative body.

 
    Furthermore, this event is  organized by the Offices of Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta and Councilor April Marie Dayap, in partnership with City Mayor's Office, Department of Education - SSG, and JCI Davao. In addition, the trainers for were from the Junior Chambers International (JCI) Davao Chapter. 

     Special thanks to our partners: City Mayor's Office, Junior Chambers International (JCI) Davao, Department of Education-SSG and SAFECON Industries Inc., for the joint efforts in making this activity possible.

    As we are now looking forward for the development of our youth in our quest for progress. Advocacies like this, will truly help the youth in preparing them for greater heights of nationbuilding. As our National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal said, the Youth is the Hope of our Fatherland, we will work hand-in-hand in molding the youth for this cause. At the end, the future of our youth still lies on our hands.

Cebu Pacific Launching of the Davao-Dumaguete and Davao-Tacloban



Building New Relationships


   The launching of the new Cebu Pacific Davao Flight Routes opens new opportunities for building strong ties with other cities. These new flight routes are the Davao - Dumaguete ( thrice a week) and Davao- Tacloban routes ( four-times-a-week). The launching was headed by Cebu Pacific Corporate Communication Director Charo Lagamon. In her speech, she even pointed out that as a Mindanaoan through blood relations, the new routes would make relatives on distant shores draw closer. Indeed, new routes would make Filipinos more connected with each other. 
   During the event, several personalities showed up and witnessed this great event. Councilors from Davao City and Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang representing Mayor Sara Duterte , together with the Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and Dumaguete and Tacloban Councilors teamed up during the launching. Indeed, the opening of these routes would then also open possibilities of partnership between the cities, boosting the tourism, trade and even closeness of the residents.

23rd So Kim Cheng Foundation Sports Awarding Night

   The Annual So Kim Cheng Sports Awards is on its 23rd year, on July 22, 2017 at Grand Regal Hotel, following the legacy of the late So Kim Cheng. So Kim Cheng Foundation is the sole and the longest award giving body in the city, in cooperation with the Davao City Sports Council, Inc. 
    The So Kim Cheng Legacy is passed on the care of the So Peng Ki ( celebrating his 89th birthday), Dominic Dexter So, Jr, and the rest of the So family.  Indeed, Davao City is grateful to the works of the foundation for its continual support and persistent motivation to the Dabawenyo Athletes. 
    During the event several awards were given to leaders and also to athletes. In behalf of the Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William "Buch" Ramirez, Senior Executive Assistant Ronel Abrenica received the Lifetime Leadership Award for his exemplary support to the Philippine Sports Athlete. The Lifetime Achievement Award was also given to former Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Leon Gonzalo " Pingoy" Montemayor. 
   The very cute and adorable 7-year old Karatedo Athlete, Atsuko Kaiyel Tan, received the SKC Female Athlete of the Year 2017 Award. Being the youngest among the awardees, Kaiyel simply charms everybody around her. Furthermore, the Karatedo Athlete Julian Ambrose Ramirez received the SKC Male Athlete of the Year 2017 Award. Yet, behind these two athletes success is the courageous and the ever supportive coach, Rommel Tan, who received the Coach of the Year Award and also a Hall of Fame Awardee. Being one of the pillars of the Association for the Advancement of Karate (AAK) Davao, his undying efforts in his humble beginnings yielded genuine successful fruits.    Furthermore, several Dabawenyo Athletes received their fruits of their labor and courage. Indeed, they bring honor to our beloved city and we will always be proud that we are part of this endeavor.

Reception Dinner for the 11th Ambassadors' Tour

   Davao City, the home of our beloved former Mayor now Head of the Country Pres. Rodrigo R. Duterte, welcomes the delegates of the 11th Ambassadors' Tour. This annual event is sphere-headed by the Department of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Department of Tourism's Tourism Promotions Board and Rajah Tours. The delegation is comprised with Ambassadors, Consuls General, Tourism Directors and members of the Filipino-American Community. The tour aims to showcase the great treads in tourism, economic development and public safety in the Philippines, as the new Administration pave its way to sustainable development of the country. 
   Davao City, as the King City of the South and the homeland of His Excellency President Duterte, is the special highlight of the this year's tour. Dabawenyo Culture, as a melting pot of several Mindanaoan tribal cultures, offers a lot to its seekers. It is actually manifested by our mouth-watering, exquisite cuisine and delicacies, abundant harvest of delicious and exotic fruits like Durian, festive celebrations showcasing the tribal traditions and culture, to Dabawenyo esteemed law-abiding character and so much more. Indeed, life is here in Davao City. 
    As Davao City welcomes the arrival of the delegation of the 11th Ambassadors' Tour with a reception dinner at Waterfront Insular Hotel located at Lanang, Davao City, several Dabawenyo cuisine and delicacies together with several number of cultural dances exhibiting the several ethnic tribes in Davao City were presented to the delegation as a start of their 4-day Dabawenyo experience. 
    As Dabawenyos, it is indeed our calling to pass our living legacy to the next generations and to our beloved visitors, Filipino or not.

Happy 18th Araw ng Barangay (Brgy. Sta. Ana 27-C)

Last July 18-19, 2015, Brgy. Sta. Ana 27-C celebrated their 18th Araw ng Barangay. 
The festive celebration was filled with fun activities and various programs. On the night of July 18, Coun. Mabel Sunga Acosta joined the barangay in their celebration during the Dance Competition as honoured guest. Councilor Mabel herself witnessed the breathtaking dance moves and performances of the 7 groups who joined. It was truly a hip hop filled evening for everyone.


Team Acosta's enthusiastic support to the barangay's celebration culminated with a Feeding Activity. On July 19, 2015, Team Acosta served the delicious and healthy Moringga Lugaw to the residents. 

Team Acosta would like to thank Punong Barangay Mendoza and Kagawad Mayjee De La Cruz for tapping us as a partner of this joyful celebration.

8th ACOSTA CUP BEGINS. . .

The 8th ACOSTA Cup - Ladies' Open Football Tournament - kicked off on 19 November 2011 at the Tionko Football Grounds. There are 6 teams competing in this year’s event – the biggest number of teams so far that participated in an 11-a-side women's open competition. The teams are: PWC College, PWC High School, Ateneo Lady Knights, D'DS, Tambayan, and UP Mindanao.

The tournament is in single round robin format. The top two (2) teams will vie for the championship, while the third highest ranking team in the overall standing will automatically be declared 2nd runner up. Now on its 8th year, the tournament is sponsored by former Davao City Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta in her commitment to promote women’s football in the city.

Pasko Fiesta 2009, Pahalipay ni Mayor Rody Duterte







Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte and his youngest daughter, Veronica, led the traditional switching on of the Christmas lights of the Rizal Park. The Mayor expressed his gratitude to the people of Davao City as the annual activity has become a symbol of hope and happiness to the common Davaoeño.

The Pasko Fiesta 2009, Pahalipay ni Mayor Rody Duterte, was a crowd drawer as there were presentations coming from the the Magallanes Alumni Rondalla, Matina Central Elementary School Choir and U.I.C. Girls Choir.

Next was a dance number from the group Housemates, the smooth music from the Kaliwag Theater Collective and a Tibetan inspired dance number from the Philippine Academy of Sakya which drew wows from the crowd.

Mabel At Your Service and the T.G.I.F. Project








Team Mabel with the group Dabaw Anonymous has recently culminated its "Adlaw with Nanay", and the highlight was the awards of Project: T.G.I.F. (Thank God It's Feedin' Day), with 5 pupils who were awarded "Best Gainers" coming from the different Grade levels of S.I.R. Elementary School.

The Project:T.G.I.F. focuses on activities promoting health and wellness of the pupils of S.I.R. Elementary School along with their parents, this with the energetic Davao Anonymous group composed of: Juan Gadi, Rica Villanueva, Raffy Sucaldito, Melissa Gandionio and George Peponio.The T.G.I.F. project focuses on sustaining the eating and dietary lifestyle of students as well as hygiene and basic school needs.

The event that sunny Friday morning was was packed with different activities for the pupils, parents and teachers. An exercise session with members of the BeefitGym, a slogan making contest where members of Team Mabel distributed school supplies for the pupils, a free medical check-up for parents and a deworming session for pupils with volunteer doctors: Dr. Shalon Victoriano, Dr. Karol Lesiguez and Dr. Seurinane Espanola was also conducted. After that, a hearty lunch of pancit lomi guisado with vegetables prepared by volunteer parents was shared by the participants and organizers.

The 5 winners for the monthly challenge for pupils who showed robust health improvement aptly called the "Best Gainers" won a free expenses tour to some of Davao's tourist attractions as well as a free shopping spree. The event was also supported by School Principal, Mr. Ronaldo Seras and School Nutrition Head Officer, Mrs. Leonila Laroza.
