It was a beautiful day to be under the sun! The weather was fine and everyone was so excited to get started.

February 27, 2016, the Kaya Natin Youth Batch 1, together with some other young people from the various barangays of Davao City, gathered as one force to plant Mangroove trees in the Cleanergy- Aboitiz Eco Park, Punta Dumalag. There were around 36 young people who planted trees and were assisted by Aboitiz representative Ms. Sherlyn Puno as tour guide.

Everyone was so enthusiastic to start planting however, briefing and proper information should be understood by the participants thus, Ms. Sherlyn gave a short talk and your of the facilities and the proper protocols of the activity.

By the time the planting is about to start, the youth were so energetic and can't wait to plant their tree in contribution to the greening of Mother Nature. 

All in all, the youth were able to plant 280 Pagatpat Seedlings scattered in the area of the Aboitiz Eco Park.

The Kaya Natin Youth was gathered and assisted by the office of Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta and was personally joined by Ms. Luna Acosta.

Overall, the half day tree planting event was a success. Hope to plant more trees in the future for a cleaner and greener Davao City.

Last August 28, 2015, Senator Teofisto “TG” Guingona III visited two schools in Davao City. Along with Davao City Councilors and champions of Kaya Natin Movement, Hon. Mabel Sunga Acosta and Hon. April Marie Dayap, the Senator went to John Paul II College of Davao and the University of the Southeastern Philippines.

As a member of Kaya Natin Movement, Senator Guingona shared some facts about the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo and how he was a man of humility. He emphasized how simple Robredo was as he only wears slippers and how he was a great loss to the country as he was truly a great public servant.

Not only did the Senator gave the students of John Paul II College of Davao and of the University of the Southeastern Philippines a little talk of who and what kind of person the late secretary was, but also talked about values. He taught the students of what values and characteristics a true leader should embody in order to serve the people well and represent what a great leader is. He also entertained questions from the audience.

What made his visit more interesting was that he talked in Bisaya that shocked some of those from the crowd. But of course, Senator Guingona is also from Mindanao, the former representative of Bukidnon and lived in Malaybalay.

Politicians who are running for national positions are now preparing for the upcoming 2016 National Elections this May. Some partylists and groups are now gathering and boosting the people's awareness about their desire to be in the position. Some are now even starting to expose themselves through TV ads.

It has been 3 years now since the Philippines lost a very valuable and humble public servant, DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo. In his loss, he left an empowered, developed and better Naga City. He did not just left a legacy in the city as a mayor but marked a great legacy of good governance in the Philippine public service. Because of the wonderful things he has contributed for the city and the DILG, people has recognized his passion and hard work in doing his duty as an official. 

His unfortunate death did not hinder the cry for honest leadership and good governance. This situation paved way for his wife, the incumbent 3rd District Congresswoman of Camarines Sur to continue what her husband has established. Cong. Leni has been serving her constituents for 2 years now. Even before, when Sec. Robredo was still in service, Cong. Leni has been in public service extending help to those in need. Although she has chosen to be in the shadows than being in the limelight, her humbleness in service brought her to where she is now.

Being a mother and a father of her 3 beautiful girls is a challenge. Add up the spice of being a mother and a leader of the whole 3rd Congressional District of Camarines Sur will really make you awe this strong woman.

In the upcoming 2016 elections, people are anticipating if she will bring the challenge of public service into the next level. In her short drop by in Davao City before heading to Kidapawan last August 31, 2015, Cong. Leni was asked by the Davao City media if she is considering a national post. She directly answered it with a yes. Senate would be a great option according to her. Asked if she will go for the post of a Vice President, she thinks she is still not qualified for such a huge position.When asked about what party will she be under, she candidly answered the Liberal Party due to the fact that Sec. Jesse is from there.

With her passion and humbleness in service, the country definitely needs a public servant like her. An example of a genuine public servant and a leader that has a heart for the people. This is the kind of servant leader the Philippines need.

NEW: Lamayan ng Bayan Facilities

Last August 28, 2015 the “LAMAYAN NG BAYAN” at Barangay 76-A SIR Phase 1 was officially turned over by the office of Senator TG Guingona III to the local Barangay Council through the office of Councilor Edgar Ibuyan Sr., 1st district Councilor.

The purpose of this project is to provide a free venue for the families of the repose to conduct their wake. The official turnover was witnessed by Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta and Councilor Edgar Ibuyan Sr of 1st district, Councilor April Marie Dayap of 2nd district and Councilor Kaloy Bello of 3rd district. The Barangay Council, headed by Punong Barangay Rolando Trajera, were also present during the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Remembering the Legacy of Sec. Jesse Robredo (A Kaya Natin-Davao City Chapter Activity)

In remembrance of the late DILG Secretary Jesse M. Robredo on his third death anniversary, a commemoration mass was celebrated at San Pedro Cathedral on August 18, 2015.

Robredo was also the former Mayor of Naga City. He died in a plane crash on August 28, 2012. He is remembered to be a great public servant and his death was a great loss to our nation. 

The mass was followed by serving of Tuna Moringa Lugaw and distribution of slippers to the locals outside San Pedro Cathedral. These activities were sponsored by Kaya Natin Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership-Davao City Chapter champions, Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta, Councilor April Marie C. Dayap, and friends of Secretary Jesse M. Robredo.

THIS IS IT! Abot Alam Grand Orientation Program

Davao City- April 17, 2015 marked another milestone for Philippine education as this day launched the grand orientation of Abot-Alam Program in Davao City. Joining the preceding efforts of the Department of Education and various LGUs, Davao has now stepped into the bandwagon for a zero OSY Philippines. The very successful event was held in Davao City Recreation Center Almendaras Gymnasium wherein the Department of Education together with other government agencies, City Mayor’s office of Davao, Davao City Council represented by the Chair of Education, Science & Technology, Arts and Culture Committee, Hon. Mabel Sunga-Acosta, and the barangay officials of the 3 districts, together marked the beginning of an interagency effort targeting out of school youth (OSY) in the City of Davao.

As what DepEd describes the program, Abot-Alam is an initiative that aims to map OSY and enroll them in appropriate program interventions in education, entrepreneurship, and employment. Thus, this orientation helped the barangay officials and the various government agencies to understand more about this program and how we can help these young people attain proper education. There were series of talks coming from the key agencies that spearhead the program as well as words of thanks from Mr. Mario A. Deriquito DepEd Undersecretary for Partnerships and External Linkage that flew all the way from Luzon to support the said event. The barangay officials and other partner agencies were also given a chance to raise queries and have their questions be answered directly by the Department of Education.

Having breaks from all the speeches and open forum, the office of Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta and Mayor Rodrigo Duterte gave away raffle prizes for the participants. Everyone seemed so excited claiming their mugs and Kaya Natin shirts.

At the end of the activity, everyone gained knowledge of their different roles in implementing the nationwide effort for the OSY. The Department of Education really urged everyone to give their full support for this program.

This is a big step for Philippine education as we live up according to the tagline “No Filipino Youth is left behind”. Let us do this hand in hand and together let us reach our goal for a Zero OSY Philippines 2016.

In Celebration of the life and legacy of former DILG Secretary Jesse M. Robredo, a medical mission was conducted by the "Kaya Natin Movement" during his death anniversary yesterday, August 18, 2014, at Baragay Tomas Monteverde Sr., Agdao, Davao City. During the event, free reading glasses were given, and free haircut services and blood pressure check-ups were made. Free "hot lugaw" was also served to the public. Attendants in this said event were the staff of the mentioned barangay and Councilors Mabel Sunga Acosta and April Marie C. Dayap.
