DAVAO INTERNET SUMMIT 2008



Last November 14, 2008, the Internet Cafe Accrediting Board (ICAB), in partnership with the Internet Cafe Association of Davao (ICAD) headed by its President, Ms. Yvonne Cabada, successfully held the 1st Davao Internet Summit, with the theme: "Harnessing the power of the web through a more responsive ICT industry." Aside from the message that the theme conveys, the summit was organized to educate the Davaoenos of the provisions of the Internet Cafe Ordinance of 2004, as well as to provide presentations on the effects of the internet to the growth of the ICT industry in the City, the students' education and to the society in general.

To make this possible, resource speakers were invited by the organizers of the summit, to share their views and opinions on the matter with which they were requested to give a talk. And one of them is Coun. Mabel Sunga Acosta, 1st District Councilor, who was requested to give a presentation/talk on the effects of the unregulated use of the internet by the students to their education as well as to provide a briefer on the Internet Cafe Ordinance of Davao City. The Ordinance was originally authored by Coun. Pilar Braga in 2002, which Coun. Mabel amended in 2004 in light of the existing condition at the time.

The participants of the internet summit include, among others, students and members of the Academe, City and Barangay Officials and Internet Cafe owners.

The members of the Internet Cafe Accrediting Board (ICAB) include,City Administrator Wendel Avisado, Atty. Jhopee Agustin, OIC Business Bureau, Hon. Mabel Sunga Acosta, Hon. Tessie Mata-Maranon, Hon. Angela Librado-Trinindad, TESDA representative , City Legal representative and Ms. Yvonne Cabada and Adolfo Solanor, Pres. and Immediate Past Pres. of the Internet Cafe Association of Davao (ICAD), respectively.
