This year saw 17 teams taking part in the 6th installment of Acosta Cup. Other schools who participated in the tournament are Zonta Elementary School and Los Amigos Elementary School.

The Office of Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta would like to thank the following for making the one-day festival a tremendous success: Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, City Sports Development Division, RDL Pharmaceutical Lab Inc., Jollibee JTC Davao, MY Hotel, Davao Football Association and UP Mindanao.

Special mention also to Mayor John S. Johnson of Don Marcelino, Davao del Sur for gracing the event and supporting the development of girls’ football in his municipality.

WATCH OUT: The Ladies Open Category of the 6th Acosta Cup will kick-off on January 16, 2010 at Tionko Football Field in Agro, Quimpo Blvd., Davao City.

ABS-CBN Foundation's Bantay Bata 163, the 24 hour hotline that provides rescue and rehabilitation for children in crisis has launched a fund-raising Children's Bazaar at the Matina Town Square last Friday, November 13, 2009.
The Children's Bazaar which showcased small companies and local entrepreneurs with their handicrafts, health products, environment friendly goods as well as beauty products, food and beverages and imported items. Proceeds of the said event will go to the ABS-CBN Foundation's Bantay Bata 163.

6th Acosta Cup on November 2009

The 6th edition of the annual Acosta Cup ladies football tournament is scheduled to kick-off this November 22, 2009 at the Tionko Football grounds.

The tournament is in cooperation with the Davao Football Association which has been organizing the Acosta Cup since 2004. This year, the tournament will have two phases. For the first phase, DFA has set the categories exclusively for 10-under, elementary, and high school girls through a 5 a-side and 7 a-side game formats.

For school-based teams, interested parties must submit a photocopy of birth certificate of each team member as well as a certification from their respective school principal. Registration is free and deadline is set on November 18, 2009.

The second phase of Acosta Cup will involve the ladies open category with an 11 a-side format. Said tournament will commence on January 16, 2010.

OMBUDSMAN at MAYS

Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao, Atty. Humphrey T. Monteroso, was featured during the October 14, 2007 edition of Mabel At Your Service.

As the head of the Multi-Sectoral Anti-Corruption Council (MSACC), Atty. Monteroso encouraged the various societal sectors to participate and support the Anti-Corruption Rally and subsequent launching of the National Anti-Corruption Program of Action (NACPA) which is set on October 19, 2007, Friday, at the Holy Cross of Davao gym. The theme of the event is "Katiwalian ay Labanan, Maging Tapat sa Bayan".

NACPA will start with a foot parade at 6:30am at Freedom Park, Roxas Avenue and will culminate at the HCDC gym. It will be participated by the OMBUDSMAN as the lead agency with the representatives from the different sectors and agencies.

Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has declared the month of November 2007 as National Consciousness Month for Punctuality (Respect for the Value of Time) and Civility Respect for the Rights of Others --(Buwan ng Pagpapahalaga sa Oras at sa Karapatan ng Kapwa)--under Proclamation No. 1387. Pursuant to the said directive, all local and national government offices, and all public and private schools, colleges and universities in the country are enjoined to observe the said month with appropriate programs to promote the twin values of punctuality and civility.

FILIPINO TIME should be on time. RESPECT for civil rights should be upheld.
